Edwin climbed over the garden (chickenwire) fence to be with Michael as he was picking kale earlier this week.

Edwin walked over half a mile tonight, from ABC Cafe to the old courthouse site on Court St, holding our hands or just Michael's hand. He also insisted on using the spoon HIMSELF at dinner tonight. We have a messy boy who is now asleep with remnants of hummus all over his face... and he's in our bed... at least I'll dream about good food tonight! :)

Update... the toaster was actually off when this whole thing occurred! I had just removed the first 4 warm taco shells and rested the next 4 in the warm but off toaster oven, as I'd intended. Just the remaining heat plus the oil on the shells caused all this!!! We are now mostly done with the first round of cleaning. What a night! :) There was no damage other than the loss of some food in the area and of course the toaster oven.
Well, Edwin is cute. If you fart, he sometimes smiles and gives you the raspberries. He really sounds like he's saying 'no' when you ask if he wants something and he clearly doesn't. We think talking will come pretty soon. It's quite exciting.
Speaking of exciting... I started a little kitchen fire tonight. I had made tacos and rice, mmmmm!!! But we only got to eat 2 tacos each... I had thought I'd placed 4 taco shells in the OFF toaster oven, but in fact it was probably on. We don't actually know for sure yet... the whole thing needs to cool off yet. Anyhow, I heard the tacos cooking, that is, the oil on them was sizzling. So, I went over there and unplugged it. It didn't look safe to get near the dials, but the cord was accessible. So, I grabbed the cord. I also turned on the stovetop fan. I told Michael it was unplugged now, but I wasn't sure it was safe yet. "It could still burst into flames. I don't know..." So, he grabbed the fire extinguisher, watched for about 2 milliseconds, and determined that the fire inside was actually increasing. I figured the fire extinguisher wouldn't help b/c the fire was contained inside the toaster. (Smoke was coming out from all the cracks.) But, he'd used them before and knew it would work. Seconds later, the fire was out, and the entire kitchen began to become coated in white dust. It ruined our dinner... well... we did each finish the 2 tacos we had started, after double-checking that the material was safe.... Anyhow. So, the moral of the story is that fire extinguishers are a good thing, even if we'll be spending the rest of the night trying to clean up white dust....
