So, the leaves are changing in the northern tier of PA now.  They are just at the beginning of the lovely phase.  I don't see so much change in Ithaca quite yet.  I don't know why.  They say it's been a very warm summer and fall season, so much so that NYS apple growers are seeing the sweetest apple crop in ages!  I'm all for sweet apples!!!  I guess tomorrow I can go to the Farmer's Market and nab some! :)

Well, I was meaning to add this entry to Edwin's paper memory book, but I will never have time so I'll add it to the blog! Oh well!

Edwin, our schedule has become quite different from last year.  You attend Toddler University in Blossburg, PA.  It's a reasonably new place with friendly energetic staff.  There are lots of kids your age, and you love it there.  Our has has just finished being painted on Tuesday of this week, but it's been under a bit of upheaval for the past month or so, since school started.  So, even when Daddy would have stayed home (as he was quite ill for several days), he's been coming in with us.  So, we all wake up at around 5:30 and Daddy goes to shower.  You are still usually asleep, so we leave you upstairs with the doorbell.  You could get down from the bed yourself if you really needed to.  Safely, too, probably, but you usually don't.  You know we will come get you if you ring the doorbell, and that works for us as well!  I go downstairs and begin to make my tea for the drive.  I find something to eat or I assemble a sandwich for the ride.  We all end up dressed and out the door somehow by around 6:30 to 6:45.  Usually Daddy changes you and usually I pick the clothes, but there are variations, depending on who has extra time after we've eaten.  You take about 20 minutes to fall asleep on the way in, and once we arrive in Mansfield, either we continue to Blossburg or Daddy drops me off at work and takes over driving you in.  (Daddy sleeps from Ithaca to Mansfield.)

One or both of us usually picks you up from TU between 2:30 to 4:00. On the way home, you haven't been happy about the ride lately.  You eat, play, and sleep very well at TU, so unlike last year, you are not actually ready for a nap when we get you.  Some days we can keep you happy, and other days, we can't!  Food helps, but we don't want to make that a habit.  We don't want you to starve, though, so it's kindof hard to tell when you are really hungry/thristy, or when you are bored.  If you guzzle 250 ml of water, you were thristy, though!

Since you started TU and I'm pregnant, the nursing has cut back dramatically!  It seems to have become stable, though.  We don't actually have a regular nursing time, but you ask for it in earnest when you are grumpy, tired, upset, etc.  We only have one more-or-less regular nursing habit, and that's when we're in the shower together.  That happens more days than it doesn't.  So far, I believe we've still nursed each day at least once, but it's possible that we have skipped a day.  You still really love to fall asleep to it, but you often don't actually fall asleep by the time *I* need to detach.  Daddy is just as often the one who gets you to sleep at night as me.  I sometimes think it's easier for him, because you don't ask him to nurse and then get upset when he says no :)

You love soymilk with chocolate in it.  Sometimes I even add raspberry flavor.  What a spoiled kid you're going to be!!!  We love you so much, Edwin!!! :)))  xoxoxoox

He learned to open the pocket door as of last night.  It's all over!  He's done it before with the pocket door cracked open, but now he can open it from a closed position.  I'm so proud of my boy!

Saturday was his first instance of using a fork - successfully I might add, and all by himself!  I let him loose on a piece of Barb's birthday cake (50th) and he had a blast!

Today, he played his first song on the piano!  He actually and really truly played the first 8 notes of Ode To Joy.  Michael and I were in the kitchen and he was in the livingroom just messing around on the piano and out comes these 8 notes, clear as a bell!  We both looked at each other.. and I said, "Did he really do that?"  "yes." "You heard him too?!?!"  "yes."...   wow!!!!  It must've been a fluke, but I had been playing that for him earlier, maybe today or yesterday!

This morning, at breakfast, Edwin discovered his shadow!  He also found
that if he held a shiny object in the light, he could make a bright
spot move against the wall.

Today at the Farmer's Market, Michael and Edwin went produce-hunting while I searched for food.  (I don't have many cravings, but this one Cambodian "pancake" dish is more of a habitual favorite of mine which I can only find pretty much at the Farmer's Market...  Plus I got homemade ice cream, "Dennis' Ice Cream", and we 3 ended up eating lunch with Dennis himself!!!)  Anyhow, while Michael and Edwin were off at Sabol's, Edwin managed to grab an entire handfull of potatoes while he was attached on Micahel's back in the Ergo.  I guess since Michael is short, this is a problem when he bends over!!!  Michael thought he retrieved all the stolen potatoes, but alas, while we were eating, this random half-eaten potato flies through the air and lands beside us.  At first I thought there must be a squirrel in the tree we were sitting under!  But I said, "A potato!!!" and Michael said, "Edwin!!!!!"  Heheheheh...  Mr. Sabol said we could keep it now that Edwin had munched it. hehehe..but we bought more food from him after that anyhow...

Friday night, we went out to eat.  While waiting for a table at the Thai place on the Commons, we let Edwin (and Michael) play in this play-area nearby.  We ran into this man who had his own kids and a friend's kids.  His son, Miles, and Miles' friend Sophia were born on the same day, and they're about a year older than Edwin.   We got to talking about kids and what they can do at what age, and I asked him what they can do now that they couldn't a year ago.  He replied, "Just watch them... you'll get an idea." Well, unfortunately, the demonstration didn't go too well.  Within less than a 30 second window, Sophia decided to go look for her mom, and unbeknownst to any of us had started actually RUNNING away from the play area.  When he realized she was missing, he had to grab Miles and start running around looking for her, but not knowing what direction.  Since he went one way, I ran the other way, leaving Edwin with Michael.  A man asked if I was looking for a girl in a purple dress, and I had forgotten what color she was wearing, but he said she went running "that way".  So I yelled for Miles' dad and we all started running off in that direction, hoping that was the right way.  The mother appeared as we were running and yelling "Sophia".  She said, "Don't tell me you can't find her!" And right then we basically all arrived at Sophia at roughly the same time.  Since she was found, I started walking back to the play area.  She had run all the way to the OTHER end of the Commons by herself! I heard Miles' father tell Sophia's mother, "I just got distracted talking to this lady for 30 seconds and she disappeared!"  I felt so bad.  I felt so lucky.   I felt so lucky on behalf of Sophia.

I know kids are safer than we think they are when they get lost like that, because I saw a kid get lost in a mall once.  Adults rally around lost children and make sure they get back to their parents.  But, of course, nothing helps when you have kids running around in the streets!  Sophia had almost made it off the Commons and into the roads.  And, nothing, nothing, nothing, can make you feel better about having had a lapse of attention while a child under your care runs off.  I really wonder if Sophia's mom will let Sophia play with Miles again...
