Edwin weighs 14 lbs 12 oz today! :)  And I'm slowly getting rid of my pregnancy weight gain!
After gaining 60 lbs, it's nice to have only about 12 to 13 left to go.  Maybe I'll fit some of my old clothes
yet!

Edwin now puts his OWN face in the water ON PURPOSE!  It's soooo cool!!!!  I glide him around on his belly, slowly, and he experiments with dipping his head into the water. NEAT!!!!
Edwin is now 14 lbs 10 1/2 oz :)

I attempted to get Edwin's pictures taken at Sears. This was a total waste of time and money. Poor guy. Maybe he had an upset tummy? Maybe he was just overtired? I'm not sure. But, because of some totally stupid rules (paradoxical counterproductivity strikes again!) I can't buy even the shots we took today, because we didn't manage to get through an entire sitting. They have to get a minimum of 6 shots, and the photographers get 'graded' on these ridiculous criteria that are not necessarily in line with what the parents want out of the photographs. So, they have to take a variety of poses and a variety of facial expressions and they have to have some 'contact' ones (baby touching parent in some way) and it's just so dumb! I only got one decent picture of him anyhow. These are not his best smiles. I TOLD the photographers point blank that they were making too much noise, so let's try to be quiet, (He was totally overstimulated!) and we got ONE good picture! They said, "Oh, now we know what works! We have to be Quiet!". But
they then proceeded to be noisy the rest of the time and got nowhere. They just tired him out and he wouldn't smile. He was very very patient and has a good attention span, but no smiling per se. And they get graded on that of course... grrr.....

Well, yesterday, Edwin and Mommy had their first trip to the pool alone together.  It's amazing, people are soooo nice when you have a baby!  It's as if you live in a big world of mommies and daddies suddenly.  "Oh, he's sooo cute!  He reminds me of when my son/daughter was that small" and then you talk baby talk.  It's like this big fraternity.  These people also offer to hold your kid while you do other stuff, like this sweet lady in the pool said she'd hold Edwin while I swam.  Although it's sweet of her to offer, and I'd certainly be willing to hold someone else's baby like that- she's *still* a stranger.  Funny that.  With all the stuff that goes on, you have to always be aware of that silly little fact.  But at least they're nice strangers.  Oh, and Edwin had a blast in the pool.  He would put his own face in the water, unwittingly, and then act all surprised.  I told him he did it himself.  But it was all fine.  We both really appreciated the break from the heat!
So, it's quite annoying that the email feature seems to have gone belly-up on this site, just when I was sure I could get used to blogging. :( So, I don't know if I'll keep blogging or not. Time will tell. But in any case, we went swimming again today. Edwin had fun! :) I held him horizontally and he put his own face in the water a few times. It surprised him. :) He learned to pull the handle on the cow-toy that makes noise, but he still hasn't figured out that he has to grab it first to make it work. I still have to wrap his fingers around the handle, then he'll pull.

Wow. Yesterday was sooo busy! Edwin held up wonderfully! I sometimes think he's TOO accomodating. :) Either that or he's more like me than I give him credit for! We slept in a long time
this morning, and he's sleeping again! (After a nice bath and meal.)

First, we woke up at 7:30 to get to the baby research place at 9. Then, at 11, we were back down the hill at 11 for coffee and lunch with baby Evan (his 'twin') and baby Liaden. Michael was the only dad this time. Then, at 2, we were back up the hill to see Michael's advisor, and after that, we went swimming again! We just couldn't resist, because it was a million degrees again today (low 90's but it feels like low 100's because of the humidity). Of the three times we've gone, this time was the best so far! He had fun!!! After this, we came home for only about 45 minutes before leaving to (drive this time) back up the hill for a geek-movie in the math lounge. Some grad students were playing "Fermat's Last Tango". I was impressed. It was pretty well done, except for the violins who were thankfully drowned out by the accordion. (Yeah, the violins were *that* bad!)

The amazing part was that poor Edwin was sooooo exhausted, but couldn't sleep, and he didn't cry about this fact. It took me awhile to catch on (I'm still slow at this because I'm kindof new at this mom thing...) but he was really really really tired. He nursed on one side until it became annoying to me, so probably over half an hour. Then, we did that again on the other side. Finally, I realized he wasn't hungry. He was just trying to comfort himself. The music wasn't too loud (two external speakers on someone's laptop), but he's like me with sounds. He usually can't tune them out. So, poor kid was awake all this time and unable to fall asleep. I finally went out into the hall where it was dead silent. I sat down in this cozy carpeted corner and just held him and he zonked out immediately. I could've easily done that an hour before and then brought him into the movie asleep. What a sweet baby we have!

It's so wonderful when this happens, but it's so rare.  He cried, I picked him up and offered him my milk, and he wasn't interested in it.  He just wanted to snuggle with *me*.  How sweeeeet!!!  It feels nice to know sometimes he just wants *me* and not my milk.  What a sweet son!  He fell right to sleep.  It's like a million and one degrees today.  Bleck!
He said "eye-oo" again this morning and "ahh-gooo" also. :)  Fun!!!

Swimming was fine.  We tired out the poor little guy even though he stopped for a snack in the middle.  He didn't care for being dunked this time.  (Last month, he couldn't have cared less.) But, this month, he could see well enough to look around while he was in the water.  We spun him around (Michael also does this on a chair we have).  It's fun to watch his eyes dart back and forth as we do this!!!  So, even though he didn't do too much, it is alot of fun to compare month by month how he reacts to it all.
Today, Edwin can sit up on the futon, kindof.  Futons are sloped a certain way, which makes it possible.  Also, yesterday he rolled over from a pillow to off the pillow, but wouldn't roll over on a pillow (turned the other way), so we're making progress on all these skills, slowly but surely.  He has this toy that's part of the chair Howie and Lindy gave him, and if you pull the cord, it plays a song.  He kindof got that today, with coaxing.  Well, we're planning to take him back to the swimming pool today, so, I'll let you know how that goes.  Oh yes, one more thing.  Today at Friendlies, he started to get fidgetty. Two nights ago at the Indian restaurant, he did that also. So, our days of eating peacefully at restauraunts with him may be about to go on a hiatus.  That, or we just have to be more careful about making sure he's fed in advance.  Three months from now, eating will be a huge fun game b/c we'll be able to give him scraps.  But not quite yet.  So, we may not be eating out as much pretty soon.  Oh well, we'll see how it goes.
Well, Edwin is cute as always. Today, he woke up saying "eye-ooo eye-oooo" which we are interpreting to mean "I (love) you! I (love) you". He can put all of his weight on his little legs now, but his feet and legs aren't quite straight yet, and he's not coordinated enough to do anything with this strength yet. But, he loves to practice!

Just forgot to say this... Edwin weighs 14 pounds as of yesterday. Well, it's almost tomorrow, but yesterday was Friday.
Well, let's see... This is Donna, Edwin's mom. This is my second attempt to start a blog for Edwin. I didn't like how the yahoo blog software messed up my entries, so I figured I'd try this site. I think it's probably the most popular blog hosting site, or at least one of the top ones.

Edwin is 12 weeks old today! It's also the first day he willingly took any appreciable amount of expressed mommy-milk. yeah! He took 5 1/2 ounces from Daddy. That milk had been frozen for one week, so that's good news!

It's also the first time Edwin has tasted anything other than mommy-milk (except for the 2 ounces of formula he had in the hospital). We let him taste mint, sage, cilantro, basil, and lemon balm. Those are all from our garden. I licked them first and bit them a bit to get the flavors out, then let Edwin lick the leaves on my fingers. He was amused!

Edwin is really learning to play with hangy-toys. This all just started this week, and it's really starting to get exciting! Tuesday, we get to participate in baby-research. That will be fun!
