Zachary apparently knows where we put the cups, plates, and silverware when we are done with them. We keep them in a cupboard next to the table. He also knows that's he's not supposed to be in there... But today, after finishing his drink, Donna caught him in the cupboard, messing with the glasses. At first, she thought he was just getting into trouble. Then she noticed that he was turning over the glasses, like the way that I usually do. Then she noticed that the glass in question was the one he just finished drinking from!
Last night, Edwin was very sleepy. I wasn't so sleepy, and had gone downstairs to write at the kitchen table. However, he woke up and wandered over to the bathroom. In the process, he woke Donna, who dashed off after him, not sure what he was up to, as he'd never taken himself to the bathroom at night before. Of course, he actually did have to use the toilet, so Donna helped him onto it. He then sleepily noted "good job, Edwin. you get a sticker for going pee-pee in the potty. i'm proud of you." Of course, he got a sticker, indeed. But he wasn't done; Donna went back to bed, while he wandered downstairs. After he found out that he wasn't aloud to play noisily, but had to sit with me at the table; and he wasn't aloud to demand beverages of his choice, but was allowed water; he decided that I was boring, and wandered back upstairs to sleep. Donna noticed something odd about his demeanor while upstairs -- it's likely that while he wandered off to the bathroom (and likely just before wandering down the stairs), he was actually sleepwalking!
Zachary calls Quesadillas, "Quesadidadadas" in much the same way that kids spelling banana cannot stop the "anananananas".
Edwin has been talking on the phone for a while, but I think he understands a great deal more now. He was home sick with me, when we received a call from Donna at work. I offered the phone to Edwin, who initially refused. I pushed him the phone, saying, "it's Mommy". When he heard her voice, he siezed the phone, listening intently. She told him "Mommy is at work", at which point, he nearly dropped the phone, and stared at it, eyeing it suspiciously. Slowly, he brought it back to his ear, with a smile growing across his face... I think he understands a bit more.
Zachary loves his brother Edwin. In the morning, usually the parents (us) are in our bed, Edwin is in his toddler bed, and Zachary is in the crib. Two weekends ago, though, this was not the case, as Edwin had spent the night in our bed. We had left him asleep in it, when we awoke Zachary. He wandered into our bedroom, saying "Mommy? ... Daddy? ..." and then a long pause, with an excited "Edin!" followed by a pounce!
